
Paying for School
Paying for school can be a daunting task. It is expensive and difficult to know where to start. Whatever you do, don't get to overwhelmed. We will walk you through several options that you have at your disposal to get you through the tuition process.

Loan Types
Keep in mind that everyone will need something different so if you are not to sure about any of the below options or have further questions please get in contact with one of our advisors or the financial aid office.

Subsidized Loans
These are loans with interest covered by the Department of Education while the borrower is in school. Loans are given based on financial need. In order to qualify you must fill out the FASFA form. More information can be found below in the 'Loan Recourses' section.

PLUS Loans
These are available to eligible students and parents. They only allow you to borrow enough to cover the cost of tuition. You can find information on how to apply and qualify below in the 'Loan Recourses' Section.

Unsubsidized Loans
These are loans in which borrowers do not have to make payments while in school but are responsible for all interest. These are not given on a financial needs basis. You can qualify by filling out the FAFSA form. More information can be found below in the 'Loan Recourses' section.

Consolidation Loans
Consolidation loans allow borrowers to combine two or more student loans with a fixed rate. More information on how this works and how to start can be found in the link below in the 'Loan Recourses' section.
Scholarships and Grants
Scholarships and Grants are another great way to pay for school. There are several options out there and SFA even has some in house scholarships that you can apply for.
Pell Grant
Usually Awarded to undergraduate students who display exceptional financial need and have not yet earned a bachelors degree.
TEACH Grants
This requires that you agree to complete a teaching service obligation as a condition of reciving the grant. In order to qualify you must complete the FASFA form, have a 3.25 GPA, and be enrolled at a participating school.
FSEOG Grants
In order to obtain this grant you must be enrolled as an undergraduate student and must not have previously earned a degree. Your eligibility will be determined by the FASFA form. You must be enrolled at participating Texas School.
TEXAS Grant
In order to qualify you must demonstrate financial need and be classified as a Texas resident.
Tuition Equalization Grant
TEOG Grant
Grant is available to Texas residents. They must be able to show financial need and must at least be enrolled in a part-time, 2-year undergrad program.
Must be classified as a Texas resident. Must be enrolled 3/4 time in an eligible Texas higher education program and demonstrate financial need.
